Italian writer Umberto Eco dies at 84

Umberto Eco died on Friday (February 19th). He shot to fame with his 1980 novel The Name of the Rose. He was also successful author of books for children and youth, scientific publications, as well as essays commenting on contemporary culture.

A lot of his works were focused on the media. His last (released in 2015) book Numero zero, shows the mass media as a tool of political and business manipulation.

He was the winner of numerous awards, repeatedly mentioned among the candidates for the Nobel Prize.
