Elsevier, the information analytics business specialising in science and health, has announced the winners of this year's Polish Research Impact Leaders Awards. The awards, organised by the Perspektywy Education Foundation (PEF), are part of the conference Polish Universities in International Perspective, Rankings and Strategic Management of a University, and recognise universities for their global impact and visibility in research.
The awards ceremony, now in its second-year in Poland, is part of an Elsevier global initiative aimed at supporting research and development, and helping advance scientific research across a broad range of disciplines.
The winning institutions in the six research disciplines are: University of Rzeszów - Agricultural Sciences; Gdynia Maritime University - Engineering and Technology; University of Rzeszów - Humanities; Medical University of Gdańsk - Medical Sciences; University of Zielona Góra - Natural Sciences; and Gdańsk University of Technology - Social Sciences.
The awards recognise institutions outstanding in their fields for high-quality research, while also contributing to the international visibility of the institution and Polish research overall.
The evaluation criteria are based on a combination of bibliometric indicators collected from Elsevier's SciVal. Indicators needed to reflect an increase in the number of publications in the most prestigious scientific journals, and showcase a high-level of international cooperation and impact, as measured by the Field-Weighted Citation Index. Universities whose authors published at least 50 publications in the period 2014-2016 in the given disciplines were considered for the award.
The winning institutions were honoured at a gala awards ceremony hosted by PEF.
