During the world wars, it was discovered for the first time that the frequency of ABO and Rhesus blood groups was different in person's native to different parts of the world. The frequency of ABO and Rh phenotype in different populations has been extensively studied. The racial and ethnic variations in the frequency of different phenotypes provide important epidemiological data regarding population migration and inter-marriages. Different blood groups have been shown to be particularly associated with different diseases as well (Aird and Bentall, 1953; Mollison et al. , 1993). Mandi is the populated district of Himachal Pradesh with a total population of approximately 901344 , an area of 60081 sq km and sex ratio of 453472:44787 ( female : male). Since, access to the information about the blood donors and patients for various diseases was easy because of the presence of blood banks, civil hospitals and dispensaries, the district was chosen for the study entitled ''Distribution of Blood Groups and their Susceptibility to Diabetes Mellitus and Hypertension in District Mandi of Himachal Pradesh''.
