The purpose of this book is to introduce the student to communication systems and the broad principles of modern communication theory at an early stage in the undergraduate curriculum. It begins with the study of specific communication systems and gradually develops the underlying role of the signal-to-noise ratio and the bandwidth in limiting the rate of information transmission. The student is also introduced to the concept of the power density spectrum of non-random signals. This concept is then extended to random signals without any formal development. He holds a B.S. degree from the University of Poona, India, an M.S.E.E. from the University of Illinois, and a Ph.D.E.E. from Stanford University. He is the author of Signals Systems and Communication (BS Publications) and three more books.
