This international journal of laboratory animal science and welfare publishes peer-reviewed original papers on all aspects of laboratory animals in biomedical research. Commissioned review articles are also featured, together with relevant reports from working parties and expert committees. Particular emphasis is given to the inclusion of papers describing work which involves a reduction in the number of animals that need be used, which replaces animal models with in vitro alternatives, or which represents a significant refinement in methodology, leading to improvements in the welfare or well-being of the animals used.
