Das Buch präsentiert die Ergebnisse eines 2009 vom MPIfG ins Leben gerufenen Netzwerks von Sozialforschern aus sechs verschiedenen Ländern, die die Veränderungen in der Regulierung von Finanzmärkten in Reaktion auf die internationale Finanzkrise von 2007/2008 untersucht haben. Fünf Kapitel analysieren Veränderungen der Finanzmarktregulierung in wichtigen entwickelten Ländern, sechs weitere Kapitel befassen sich mit den Reformen, die von der Europäischen Union und verschiedenen internationalen Institutionen wie dem Basler Ausschuss und dem Financial Stability Board vorgenommen wurden. Es entsteht ein facettenreiches Bild des von der Finanzkrise auf den verschiedenen politischen Ebenen ausgelösten institutionellen Wandels, seiner treibenden und hemmenden Kräfte und seiner Ergebnisse. Damit leistet das Buch einen wichtigen Beitrag zur Theorie institutionellen Wandels.
