Book description

The radar cross section (RCS) is a measure of the detectability of an object by the radar system. Theoretically, the RCS is the equivalent area of the target which produces the same amount of reflected power that is detected back at the radar system. RCS reduction plays an important role in the stealth technology for modern warfare such as aircraft, missiles, ships, and other military vehicles. RCS reduction of metallic sheet is investigated through loading it by dielectric substrate which is tapered via holes. The holes tapering are drilled in two approaches according to the choice of the reference hole radius. A reconfigurable plasma based artificial magnetic conductor (AMC) unit-cell with crossed arrows shape is investigated for RCS reduction from metallic surfaces. The radar cross section reduction from curved surfaces using plasma based frequency selective surfaces (FSS) is explained. A frequency reconfigurable plasma based FSS unit-cell with target-shaped structure is depicted. The plasma frequency is used to control the operating frequency of the FSS. Different shapes of metallic surfaces are investigated.
