Book description

Wound infection is one of the most common and serious complications that can occur throughout wound healing and can lead to a wide range of physical, physiological, psycho-mental, family and social repercussions on patients. Wound infection leads to multiple diagnostic and therapeutic challenges for wound care professionals and is a major public health issue with multiple management, prognostic and socio-economic implications. Some important challenges faced by health professionals are: chronic wound healing which is almost invariably associated with infection, biofilm and widespread antibiotic resistance, as well as individual, family and social risk factors. The adequate identification and approach of clinical and paraclinical indicators of wound infection, predisposing factors, underlying disorders that aggravate the prognosis, as well as a multilateral and appropriate therapeutic approach, taking into account the principles of wound bed preparation, TIMERS and Infection Management Pathway, are essential for the proper and successful management of wound infection.
