A letter from Springer Nature regarding updates to nature.com

Since we came together to form Springer Nature, we have been working hard to ensure our high level of service to you continues but also that you can start to see improvements in the content and service you receive.

As part of this we have been working hard to develop a Springer Nature combined infrastructure and an updated website design for nature.com, with the aim of providing our journals with a modern platform to meet the needs of our users, authors, and editors, and which will allow us to make continuous improvements.

What’s changed or will be changing for you?

Over the course of the last month we have started to move a number of our journals to the new platform. It’s important to note that whilst they look different, the URL’s are not changed and access should not be interrupted. Explore the new look-and-feel so far on a selection of some of our journals:

Nature Astronomy
Nature Ecology and Evolution
Sample of old look: Nature Immunology

This is the start of the migration of all our journals from legacy systems, platforms, and styles to benefit from our new platform and design. In the coming months our other journals will move over one by one as well.

The new design has a number of advantages:

Updated, modern design across the site with a clean journal homepage for ease of navigation

New functionality on article pages, including a way to quickly navigate between article sections, or view figures alongside text, in the right-hand column

Improved ability to highlight articles of interest or topical announcements on the journal homepage

Integration of article level metrics (“Altmetrics”) to surface “trending” articles on the journal homepage, which will display articles from the journal which have been most read or had a recent increase in Altmetric score

Author, reader and customer services are at the heart of what we do – and will continue to be so. This migration will allow us to:

Publish articles faster
Improve content discovery
Provide a foundation for future development
Provide you with one administration, invoicing and licensing system

We hope that you and your users enjoy the service improvements and the new designs. Please feel free to contact us with any comments or questions you may have.

Best regards,
Springer Nature
