Karger Publishers joins GetFTR
2020-09-02

Karger Publishers, the Swiss-based scientific and medical publisher, is the first organisation to join the five founding publishers of GetFTR, supporting streamlined access to global journal literature.

Karger Publishers has joined Get Full Text Research (GetFTR), a free-to-use solution that enables researchers to benefit from faster and seamless access to content on and off campus, via affiliated discovery tools and scholarly platforms.

Karger Publishers is the first to join the founding publishers, American Chemical Society, Elsevier, Springer Nature, Taylor & Francis Group, and Wiley. The addition of Karger Publishers will now enable researchers, through affiliated discovery tools and scholarly platforms, to seamlessly access global journal literature.

GetFTR, announced in December 2019, is a free-to-use solution for integrators (discovery services and scholarly platforms) and researchers. It seeks to address the challenges around seamless access to research. When researchers are using affiliated discovery tools and collaboration networks to search for research articles, the GetFTR link is displayed next to the published content that the users’ institution has made available to them. Speeding up and simplifying authentication by making clear which content they have access to, users just have to click the GetFTR link, which will take them immediately from integration partner to published research, both on and off campus. Working across multiple publisher platforms, this supports a familiar and consistent experience for users. It directly addresses researcher fatigue, frustration, and confusion when searching for content. GetFTR is fully integrated with platforms researchers are already using, so they do not need to register, opt in, or download additional software to access content.

Full implementation of Karger’s content with GetFTR took place at the end of August 2020. Through the GetFTR trust mark, users are directed to full-text HTML articles.

Since its announcement in 2019, GetFTR has welcomed over six new integrators including Mendeley, Figshare, and Dimensions. It is currently in the pilot phase and continues to take feedback from integrators, publishers, researchers, and Scholarly Collaboration Networks on its development.
